A little bit of life lately…
I went camping! And no weird bugs bit me! That I know of! And I totally enjoyed myself! Will and I stole away a few weekends ago with some of our close friends to Pace Bend park (about 45 minutes outside of Austin). Holly grew up camping with her girl scout troop, and I’ve got say- she knows how to camp in style. We were in well-fed (and caffeinated), and the weather was lovely, albeit a touchy muggy.
We slept in that tiny thing (which looks a little bit like a gas mask from far away), and I LOVED that the sides were see-through, so you felt like you were sleeping underneath the stars.
The very best of company!
During a middle of the night insomnia attack, I started watching The Great British Baking Show, and I am HOOKED. It is absolutely delightful and so.very.British. I even lived in England for the first 5 years of my life (though I probably was not eating many sweets for the first two) and I still don’t have a point of reference for some of the bakes- I just watched an episode where they made ‘self saucing puddings,’ charmingly abbreviated to ‘saucy puds.’ The closest I can come is the molten lava cake from Chilli’s, but I’m guessing that is not quite what Mary Berry is envisioning.
The British are the best.
For living in the live music capital of the world, I fall somewhat short on the actually going to see live music. However, I got to see two of my favorite artists recently!
Back in late February, I saw The Staves at Emo’s, and they were perfect.
I have been listening to Patty Griffin since I was 12 when my best friend introduced me to her, and she has composed the language of my angst for the last two decades. For Christmas, Will and Jeff got Holly and I tickets to see her at ACL Live. We had a great night and even ran into my sister and her boyfriend at dinner before the concert!
Outside the show – we tried to get a photo inside but lighting was strange and backdrops were unfortunate (Will tried to get a shot of us in front of Jim Morrison with his hand in his pants before we realized what we were standing in front of and moved).
Ben just started playing soccer! I didn’t grow up playing sports, so this was my first foray into the soccer mom (soccer aunt?) world and I was pleasantly surprised at how fun it was! And it only lasted an hour. I will never understand why sporting events have to be four hours. Let’s all learn something from the children and keep things short and sweet, ok? You don’t need time outs. You don’t need overtime. Give your friend on the other team a hug between plays and get on with it already. And get your head out of the net, that’s dangerous.
I wanted a sweet photo of the two of us together after the game to gaze at for years to come:
The best of the internet this week:
- I loved this post about failure from the Freckled Fox.
- Looks like my go-to Amazon green lipstick is not so niche anymore! Love that Kate is trying out a new green tube (and apparently this is a lighter shade of pink than mine!)
- The Little Women Guide to Homemaking. I found this post by accident while looking for inspiration on Pinterest on how to organize my fridge, and I loved it! I hope my someday house is half as welcoming and inviting as the one the March Girls lived in (and has an attic for putting on plays!).
Happy Easter Weekend, everyone! He may have died today, but he rises on Sunday, and praise God for that. I hope your weekend is wonderful.
